AVATAR, The Swedish metal circus freaks rolled into Baltimore once again. This time bringing with them a side show circus and a Canadian psycho-billy band.

Avatar just dropped a new album Avatar Country that came out the day before they pounced on Baltimore’s SoundStage. They tore through a set that consisted of a good mix of new material from the Avatar Country album along with a collection of tracks from their previous six albums.

At the very beginning of the show we were blessed in witnessing The King in person. He made his way to center stage and triumphantly sat on his throne and began to shredded on his guitar like only a true and rightful king can with the tracks “Glory To Our King / Legend of Our King”. Singer Johannes came to the stage and offered his reverence to the king and sing of his praise. The King looked out over his loyal subjects and took off his crown and royal cape. He then began to shred even more at the band ripped through the tune of “Let it burn

The entire show was loaded with high energy and crazy stage antics. The coolest and most memorable thing was the mic stands that had a spring lever built into it. It was made so that when you put your foot on one side it comes up. You can also use the lever system to  knock it back down to maximize the space for more shredding and tearing the stage apart.

Johannes donned a crazy mask that reminded me of some crazy African Zulu warrior. While he sang “Raven Wine”.

During the last song of the night “Hail the Apocalypse” Avatar showered the entire crowd with bubbles. Lots and lots of bubbles!  Which was exactly how you would expect Avatar to do it.

Overall the show was amazing! Avatar always puts on such a stellar show with their props, stage setting, not to mention how precise and amazing they all are. If you haven’t got the chance to see this band live I highly recommend you make the effort to catch them in a town near you. You are guaranteed a good time. What could you ask for more with a king, some freaks, bubbles, and some all around killer songs.
