Freddy Lim, the CHTHONIC frontman, human rights activist and youth culture advocate who was elected to the Taiwanese Parliament earlier this year, has been refused a visa to Hong Kong.

Lim wrote on his Facebook page he wanted to go to Sam Hui Koon-kit a concert last Saturday, but received no reply after applying for a visa online or by letter.

“The last time I went to Hong Kong was when CHTHONIC held a gig there in 2014,” he said, according to The Standard. “Over the past few years, Hongkongers and others around the world all knew that the promises of one country, two systems failed.

“Hong Kong’s freedom is being eroded quickly,” he added.

On January 16, 2016, Lim was elected as a member of the Taiwanese parliament, making him the first metal star to become a parliamentarian. The new political party that he co-founded, the New Power Party (NPP), won five seats and became the third largest party in Taiwan’s national legislature. Now he is Vice President of the Taiwan-USA Inter-Parliamentary Amity Association and chairman of Taiwan Parliament for Tibet.
