RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS' CHAD SMITH DISCUSSES His Rhythmic Art Piece 'Satan's Butterfly' (Video)

Over the last three decades, Chad Smith has become one of the most recognizable figures in rock and rhythm. As drummer for the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, he’s sold more than 80 million albums and been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. With supergroup CHICKENFOOT and the BOMBASTIC MEATBATS, he’s expanded into a variety of musical genres with an extraordinary assortment of collaborators. Back in December, Smith — in conjunction with creativity house SceneFour — debuted his fine art collection “Parallax”, which utilizes sophisticated technology to visually harness Smith‘s preternatural drum skills, previously seen only through sound, now rendered gloriously visible.

In the one-and-a-half-minute clip below, Smith discusses one of his rhythmic art pieces, “Satan’s Butterfly”.

Smith was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he first picked up the drumsticks at the age of seven. The RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS were told that Smith “eats drums for breakfast” shortly before he was tapped as their permanent drummer in 1988. Seven Grammys later, Smith is #10 on Spin‘s list of the 100 Greatest Drummers of Alternative Music, and has recorded with Johnny Cash, John Fogerty, the DIXIE CHICKS, Kid Rock and Dick Van Dyke, with whom he recorded the 2010 children’s album “Rhythm Train”, named by MTV one of the best children’s records of all time.

Completed in Los Angeles in 2015, Chad Smith‘s “Parallax” collection is the latest in the rhythm-on-canvas medium pioneered by art team SceneFour and a select group of the world’s most acclaimed drummers, including Mickey Hart (GRATEFUL DEAD), Carl Palmer (EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER), and Rick Allen (DEF LEPPARD). Using lit drumsticks in much the way a painter would brushes, SceneFour‘s innovative techniques capture Smith‘s strokes as he plays, making for a series of 13 unique, limited-edition canvas pieces, all numbered and individually signed by Smith.

A portion of all proceeds will benefit Camp Korey, a charity for children with serious medical conditions.

Fozzy comes back to Baltimore and brings the rock, the roll and David Arquette.

Chris Jericho and Fozzy always bring a great show with them , this time they had The Nocturnal Affair and Seventh Day Slumber along for the ride .

The Nocturnal Affair is a fun band to watch. A little mix of Dark Goth Rock and alternative industrial is how to explain them. Singer Brendan Shane is a great frontman and knows how to rock out the crowd.

This was my first time seeing Seventh Day Slumber and they didn’t disappoint. The band puts on a great show and singer Joseph Rojas is not only an amazing singer but just an all around great guy. The band has been around since the late 90s and still just puts on an amazing show.

Fozzy was next and the crowd was chanting “Fozzy,Fozzy” all night long. Part rock n roll crowd part wrestling crowd, the fans were ready for experience the “Walls of Jericho”. This band is always fun. The whole band just rocks the whole stage and you can tell that they are having fun. Jericho is a natural born entertainer and just oozes charisma all over the stage.

Billy Grey and Rich Ward are a hoot to watch. Both have so much energy and are bouncing all over the stage , rich even gives PJ a few smooches now and then, and when they rock that guitar solos it’s insane. I love watching the crowd and the little kids who are at the show just enjoying watching  “The Ayatollah of Rock ’N’ Rolla”, with songs like “Drinking with Jesus” and “Judas” the fans go insane.

As I mentioned in the opening statement, as we were leaving the venue after the show, the former WCW Heavyweight Champion David Arquette was coming into the venue to talk to Jericho. David was in town for monstermania horror con weekend and stopped in get a glimpse of Fozzy.
