Metallica developed their own video game back in 2005 for the PS2 and Xbox that was eventually scrapped. The game was set in an open world, similar to the immensely popular Grand Theft Auto franchise. While the game was eventually shelved, developers got pretty far in the design process before calling it quits.

YouTuber PtoPOnline got his hands on some of the rare in-game footage and gave an insider’s look at some of the inspirations behind the game. Metallica eventually had their own special edition of Guitar Hero several years later, but this game looks like it could of been a big hit if production had continued.

The game was to be called Damage Inc. and looked to be a mixture of GTA and Twisted Metal, involving heavily modded vehicles that could attack other cars around them. The gameplay footage looks promising, though now we’re left to wonder what might have been if the Metallica game was ever granted an official release.
